Antoine Petitprez’s wines are for connoisseurs. Most of his modest output is sold to Michelin-starred restaurants in France, yet for more than a decade he has gone largely unnoticed in the rest of the world. An impressive feat considering how quickly word usually spreads about all things Burgundy. But Antoine has never made much of the marketing of his wines. He is a passionate student (trained in Beaune and Lyon) of soils and terroir, with a scientific background, and spends all his time in the vineyard. In his small cellar in the heart of Pommard, he vinifies his wines with great care. Whole bunches, gentle extraction, spontaneous fermentation, only old barrels, no fining or filtration, and zero added sulphites. Antoine Petitprez’s wines are light and elegant, yet deeply concentrated and vibrant with energy. Antoine’s is a négoce very particular: it forms real partnerships with farmers from whom it buys grapes in exchange for agronomic and vineyard management advice, always in organic or biodynamic regime. Antoine has decided to replicate the same model with some producers in Savoy, adding some wines from that region to its offer.
