Greek
Grechetto is mainly widespread in Umbria and in the neighboring areas of the central regions, namely Lazio, Tuscany and Marche. However, it can be considered an indigenous vine of Umbria or more extensively of Central Italy.
The ampelographic and organoleptic characteristics reported refer to the Grechetto di Orvieto, which will be generically referred to as Grechetto. The Grechetto bunch is medium-sized, medium-short in length and pyramidal in shape, semi-compact and with two small wings. Its berry is medium-small, spherical, with a firm skin, very pruinose and greenish-yellow in color. It usually ripens in the second ten days of September.
Grechetto wine has an intense straw color, good structure and quality of aromas, intense and elegant, with characteristic fruity notes. The alcohol content is generally quite high and the acidity contained. Grechetto lends itself well to vinification in wood and to the production of sweet wines from late harvests or from dried grapes. It is used pure but also as an improver in assembly with other grapes, often with Chardonnay.
