Fouassier Estate
In the heart of Sancerre, in the Loire department, Domaine Fouassier represents one of the oldest winegrowing families in the region. Founded in 1742, the domaine is now run by Benoît and Paul Fouassier, who carry on a legacy handed down for ten generations. The family's philosophy has always been based on a deep respect for the terroir and the natural balance of the environment: every intervention, in the vineyard and in the cellar, follows the rhythms set by Maria Thun's lunar calendar.
The estate now boasts 60 hectares of vineyards, spread across three main soil types that give the wines different identities and nuances: limestone soils (Les Grands Champs, Les Grous, La Garenne, Sur le Fort), clay-limestone soils (Clos Paradis, Les Chasseignes, Le Vallon), and finally siliceous soils (Les Romains, Le Clos de Bannon, Les Chailloux). The main varieties cultivated here are Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, symbolic of Sancerre.
The ancestor Jules Fouassier was already a pioneer of local viticulture, among the first to introduce the use of sulfur and copper and to plant acacias between the vines to protect them naturally. Today, Benoît and Paul continue along that path, convinced that only working in harmony with nature can give rise to wines that are vibrant, authentic, and deeply connected to their place of origin
