Voltumna
Voltumna is an interesting Tuscan company, which has come to light with a production of wines with a frank and immediate character, marked by a artisanal vision of the world of wine . The winery is located in an atypical and alternative area of Tuscany compared to the more well-known and renowned historical areas. It is located, in fact, in the pre-Apennine area of Mugello Valdisieve, which has been recently enhanced, thanks to the search for new lands suitable for the cultivation of the vineyard and areas characterized by a continental climate, also to counteract climate change and the constant rise in temperatures. The project was born from the passion for viticulture of four young people, who decided to join forces, to create a small estate of artisanal character.
The vineyards are located in a high hill area, at an altitude of between 250 and 350 meters above sea level. The cool and breezy climate favors a slow ripening process of the grapes, with elegant and intense aromas. The soils are mainly composed of clay, very suitable for the needs of the vine. The winery's attention has focused on three vines, which have proven to be particularly suited to the conditions of the pre-Apennine area: the native Sangiovese and the international Pinot Nero and Pinot Grigio, which have acclimated particularly well to the continental climate . In particular, Pinot Noir has recently found more and more space in Mugello, which is becoming one of the new reference territories for the noble Burgundy vine.
The winery's philosophy is oriented towards a model of viticulture that is as natural as possible, practiced in full respect of the natural ecosystem. The vines are cultivated in biodynamic farming regime , without the use of herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers, in order to promote the vitality of the soil and allow the vine to find its natural productive and vegetative balance. The harvests are obviously carried out manually, with a selection in the vineyard of the ripest and healthiest bunches. Fermentations take place spontaneously, using only indigenous yeasts and the wines are bottled without proceeding with clarification or filtration.
