Muscat of Hamburg

The Muscat de Hambourg, known in Italy as Moscato d’Amburgo, is an aromatic black grape variety created in France at the end of the 19th century from a cross between Muscat d’Alexandrie and Schiava Grossa. It immediately stood out for its elegance and aromatic intensity, spreading to many wine-growing areas of the Mediterranean, especially in Italy, Greece, and Spain.

Wines made from Muscat de Hambourg are renowned for their intense and floral bouquet, reminiscent of rose, violet, and ripe grape, accompanied by notes of red fruits and light spicy nuances. On the palate, they are soft, juicy, and enveloping, with a freshness that perfectly balances the aromatic richness.

This grape variety lends itself to various interpretations: from young and fragrant red wines to sweet and passito versions, capable of releasing surprising complexity. It is also often appreciated as a table grape, thanks to the beauty of the cluster and its natural aroma.

In Italy, it finds significant expression in Sicily and Puglia, while in France, it remains a niche grape variety, cultivated in small plots and vinified with great artisanal care.
