Vineyard Altitude

Altura Vigneto is located on the steep hills of Giglio Island, in front of Porto Santo Stefano, Tuscany. It is a magical and unspoiled place that captivated Francesco Carfagna, a former mathematics professor who, in 1985, decided to change his life and move to the island. After opening a restaurant, a few years later he chose to reclaim ancient terraced vineyards, officially founding the winery in 2000 and bringing about 4 hectares of vines back to life.

Altura's vineyards are cultivated using the bush vine system on slopes that plunge directly into the sea, immersed in wild nature. Here grows Ansonaco, an indigenous variety of the island, alongside Sangiovese, Grenache, Canaiolo Nero, and Aleatico. The sandy, stony soils, combined with the marine influence, yield wines of extraordinary identity and minerality.

Vineyard work follows the principles of natural wine: no chemicals, only minimal amounts of sulfur and manure. In the cellar, fermentations are spontaneous with indigenous yeasts, macerations are long, without the addition of fining agents. The wines age in steel or, occasionally, in wood, before being bottled without fining or filtration.

Every bottle of Altura Vigneto embodies the unique character of Giglio Island: a meeting of sea, wind, and pristine nature, transformed into authentic, intense, and nuanced wine.
