Cristina Marello Prandi
Cristina Marello Prandi, born in 1998, represents both the last and first generation of the historic Prandi family. A family that shaped the destiny of Barolo: her great-great-grandfather Teobaldo founded the winery in 1864, in Piazza Cabutto, in the heart of the village. For over a century, the vineyards and winery passed from hand to hand, always to the firstborn males, following the Langhe tradition.
Her grandfather Massimo Prandi, a merchant and farmer, carried on the work with dedication; upon his death in 1987, the inheritance passed to her uncle Giuseppe, a silent enologist of great rigor. However, Giuseppe decided not to bottle wine anymore: for 36 years, no Prandi bottle left the cellar, just as Barolo was beginning its international ascent. Even without producing labels, he carefully preserved all the agricultural heritage, along with the family's values and knowledge. It was he who passed on to Cristina the love for the vineyard, the patience of farm work, and the ability to listen to nature.
And so Cristina, while descending from a long lineage, is truly the first: she does not inherit a ready-made company, but creates a new one, giving voice to a story that seemed suspended. Resilient, energetic, and determined, she has a very clear goal: to make wine with Nebbiolo, at any cost.
She purchases a small farmhouse in La Morra, where the new winery will be located starting in 2023.
Today, she can count on approximately one hectare in Paiagallo (Barolo) and one in Bricco Cogni (La Morra), vineyards that she interprets with a continuous and personal style.
Her journey takes shape with the Langhe Nebbiolo 2019, her first official release, already imbued with character and depth. In autumn 2023, she presents the Langhe Nebbiolo 2021, part of which will also be released in spring 2024 as a tribute to her uncle Giuseppe. Her first Barolo Paiagallo will arrive in 2027, a sign of a long and courageous vision.
Cristina Marello Prandi is one of the freshest and brightest voices of the new Langhe:
a young woman who is painting a new picture in Barolo, with decisive strokes, a strong identity, and absolute respect for her roots.
