Georges Fleury
Lucas Fleury wanted to dedicate the winery to his grandfather Georges, for his foresight in planting the vineyard in Crugny, in the Ardre Valley, in the 1960s.
We are located west of Montagne de Reims, in a windy and rather cool valley. When his grandfather planted the vineyard in the village, they also laughed at him because at the time producing Champagne was not very profitable. In 2017 Lucas, after studying architecture, decided to return home and work with his father Pascal. Today they cultivate 7 hectares of organic vineyards around the village of Crugny, but with very different soils. In the part of the top of the hill the soil is richer and more clayey while in the valley floor it is more calcareous. The varieties grown are the three classic ones: chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier. Curiously, despite being very far north and once an area that suffered a lot of frost, today it has the same microclimate as the Aube. Lucas is moving with caution and precision in winemaking, to understand how to best express his territory. The first fermentation is spontaneous. It has a modern cellar with great attention to every detail, the grapes arrive in the tank from above by gravity without using pumps. In the cuvées, it has chosen to leave the greater percentage to the wine matured in steel to maintain tension and freshness while 40% is refined in used barriques where the wine finds roundness.
