Babić

Babić is a red grape variety native to Dalmatia, capable of producing intense, dark, and structured wines. Also known by local names such as šibenčanac or babica, it exists in two main variants: babić veliki and babić mali. The latter produces richer, more alcoholic, and concentrated wines.

The grapes are round, dark blue, with juicy pulp and thin skin. It loves the sun and thrives in poor, rocky soils, making its cultivation difficult but resulting in high-quality wines, especially in the hills around Primošten, where it has ancient roots.

Once underestimated, Babić is now among Croatia's most prized grape varieties. Rich in tannins, it is well-suited for aging in wood. The wines are intense and long-lived, ideal with flavorful dishes such as aged cheeses, grilled meats, and pašticada.
