Val de l'Amour Vault
The Caveau du Val de l’Amour is a small gem nestled in Cramans, in Jura, just north of Arbois. It is run by Sylvain Jacquot, a tenacious and passionate winemaker who independently manages two hectares of vineyards, without any help in either the vineyard or the cellar. These are heterogeneous plots, all located within a twenty-kilometer radius of his home, falling under the Côte du Jura and Arbois appellations.
After over thirty-five years spent privately vinifying the family vineyards inherited from his father, and a long period working in the timber industry, in 2016 Sylvain decided to take the big step: dedicating himself entirely to wine. With sacrifice and determination, working for years in double shifts, he managed to acquire old abandoned vineyards because they were unsuitable for mechanization, bringing them back to life and building, step by step, the reality that is now the Caveau de Val de l’Amour.
The vines, with an average age of about fifty years, include the most typical Jura grape varieties: Chardonnay, Savagnin, Pinot Noir, and Trousseau. Vinification takes place in the small home cellar, with spontaneous fermentations and great respect for the environment and the territory. The wines are made in both the traditional sous voile style, with the characteristic veil of yeasts that gives unique complexity, and ouillé, meaning topped up, for greater purity and tension. These labels are also joined by a Macvin-style fortified Chardonnay, a typical regional specialty.
The result of Sylvain's work is a small-scale production with extraordinary identity, which sincerely and passionately conveys the authentic character of Jura, combining tradition, hard work, and artisanal sensibility.
