Earl Colin Père & Fils
The Earl Colin Père & Fils winery was established in 1987 by Henri Colin, who decided to revitalize the vineyards of Moutherot, a small hilltop village on the border between Jura and Haute-Saône. Those slopes, once walked alongside his grandfather, became the starting point for a story of rebirth and passion deeply rooted in the territory. Today, Mathieu Colin, the second generation, continues the family project with a modern vision yet faithful to the original principles: respect for nature, enhancement of the terroir, and the pursuit of excellence through simple and precise actions.
The estate spans approximately 7.5 hectares of vineyards, cultivated almost exclusively with Chardonnay, on clay-limestone soils that guarantee structure, elegance, and freshness to the wines. No use of pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers: the philosophy is one of clean, reasoned, and sustainable viticulture, where every choice is made to preserve the vitality of the soil and the identity of the grape.
In the cellar, winemaking follows the same approach: spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, aging in steel or oak depending on the cuvée, no filtration where possible, and meticulous work on the fine lees to enrich texture and complexity. The wines signed by Colin reflect this consistency: precise, authentic, long-lived, capable of expressing the vintage and the parcel without over-elaboration.
The labels are marketed under the name Terres du Moutherot, which has now become synonymous with the Colin family's oenological and territorial project. Among the most representative cuvées are the Chardonnay Tradition, fresh and fruity; the Vieilles Vignes, deep and aromatic; the Réserve, more austere and mineral; and selections such as Pélerin or Roche Bonive, which explore the structure and evolutionary potential of Chardonnay.
Alongside still white wines, the winery also produces classic method sparkling wines — such as the lively Cuvée Elyo and a fruity and refined rosé — as well as two interesting artisanal ratafia, expressing the local liqueur tradition.
Earl Colin Père & Fils is a family-run business that has chosen to grow without compromise, focusing entirely on quality, identity, and a deep relationship with its land. A name that may not appear on the labels, but which is the beating heart of one of the most authentic wine projects in the new Franche-Comté.
