Beck-Hartweg. Sixteen generations of winemakers: a history of vignerons that began in 1525. Located in Dambach-La-Ville, in the heart of Alsace, the company is run by Florian, born in 1987, and his partner Mathilde, who, with the help of Yvette and Michelle, the young vigneron's parents, continue the winemaking tradition. The dogma of their production is the terroir - the concept of soil understood as living soil - the keystone of their winemaking. All the work in the vineyard is guided by this concept: simple to understand but complex to implement, the vignerons emphasize. If we reason by assumptions, the first is to implement a total absence of chemical substances for the life of the soil. The second is to leave a diversified plant cover in the vineyards, therefore letting the plants that naturally accompany the vineyard in its life grow. It is therefore flora and fauna that become the foundation of the vineyard, giving it nourishment. To preserve all this, we have been working in an organic way certified by Ecocert since 2008, also using some biodynamic practices. These bases lead to obtaining perfectly ripe, balanced and healthy grapes. From this moment on, it is all downhill, you can approach the winemaking in a more relaxed way: no need to dominate the grapes: " we simply accompany them, we let the wine win" say the vignerons, as if they were true protectors of a gift given by Mother Earth. Its style reflects the granite soils in which the vines grow: minerality and salinity dominate the wines, seeking extreme elegance.
