We are on the slopes of Vesuvius, in Boscotrecase, province of Naples, on the sedimentary and rich soils of old and new lava flows, the last one dates back only to 1944. 5 hectares in total with south and south-east exposure facing the sea, with altitudes varying between 50 and 300 meters, with almost all ungrafted vines, or reproduced by cuttings from old vines; the espalier training is gradually leaving space also for more ancient forms such as the alberello or the pergola. Great work of recovery of native grapes such as caprettone, greco and falanghina pompeiana (uva del conte) for the white wines; piedirosso, aglianico, sciascinoso, cascaveglia and cancello for the reds. No chemical treatments in the vineyard, only horse manure to enrich, coming from a nearby farm that breeds mares, in the vineyard the mowing of the grass between the rows is manual and the aim is to make a light mulch to preserve the humidity of the earth and only a few treatments with copper and sulfur depending on the need. Matrone knows how to read his land and projects it into his wines, thinking of the future. He knows where he wants to get to and has what it takes to amaze with his work, the wines are exciting and well made, with character, mineral and elegant.
