Etnella is a young winery that, as its name suggests, is located on the slopes of the great Sicilian volcano. Founded by Davide Bentivegna in 2008, the winery expertly interprets the uniqueness of the Etna territory, thanks to traditional viticulture that enhances biodiversity. The vineyards extend over 5 hectares, distributed on the north-east side of the volcano in the districts of Presa, Linguaglossa, Passopisciaro and Randazzo. Each plot is different in lava stratification, exposure and altitude, which varies from 600 to 1000 meters above sea level. The varieties grown are mainly native, such as Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Carricante, Catarratto and are grown with the ancient sapling system. Some vines are pre-phylloxera and even reach 150 years of age. Thanks to the high density per hectare, which pushes the roots very deep, and to the maximum level of insolation, the bunches reach an excellent level of ripeness and a high quality. Davide takes care of his land with great love and careful artisanal care: pesticides are completely banned and human intervention is reduced to a minimum, with the only aid of copper and sulphur (about 2-3 treatments per year). Furthermore, the vineyards are grassed in order to favor the hotel spaces for insects and other animal varieties. Around the vines you can also notice olive trees and fruit trees, which give richness to the territory and allow to maintain a natural balance. In the cellar Davide focuses on vinifications that are as natural as possible, in order to highlight the particular mineral character of the wines: the fermentations are absolutely spontaneous thanks to the exclusive use of indigenous yeasts, the wines do not undergo clarification or filtration, the addition of sulphites is minimal or non-existent. The Etnella winery produces lively and vibrant wines, which tell the magic and complexity of the Etna territory with every sip, faithfully returning its different nuances: from each district a different wine is born, which is worked separately, thus enhancing the relative terroir. Etnella wines express with their elegance and structure a unique place, characterized at the same time by the austerity of the mountain and the flavor of the sea, presenting a Sicily that you do not expect.
