Brunello di Montalcino
Brunello di Montalcino is one of Italy's most famous and iconic red wines, a symbol of Tuscany and among the greatest expressions of Sangiovese in the world.
It originates in the municipality of Montalcino, in the province of Siena, a hilly territory unique for its microclimate and soil composition, which gives the wines a perfect balance between power and finesse.
The grape variety used is Sangiovese Grosso (locally called “Brunello”), cultivated on predominantly galestro-clayey soils, between 250 and 500 meters above sea level.
Production is regulated by very strict rules: the wine must age for at least 4 years (of which 2 in wood) before commercialization, while the Riserva version requires 6.
In the glass, it presents an intense ruby color tending towards garnet, and a complex aroma of cherry, plum, tobacco, leather, and sweet spices. On the palate, it is structured, deep, and harmonious, with dense tannins and a long, savory finish that reflects the richness of its territory.
Each area of Montalcino gives Brunello a different character:
-
the north offers more elegant and floral wines,
-
the south produces warmer and more generous expressions,
-
the east and west balance structure and freshness with mineral finesse.
Brunello di Montalcino is a wine for long aging and meditation, but also an ideal companion for red meats, game, roasts, and aged cheeses.
A timeless classic, capable of representing the nobility of Tuscan Sangiovese and the perfect balance between tradition, elegance, and depth.
