Fumin is a grape variety native black grape variety from the Aosta Valley , the first information about which dates back to a relatively recent period, around 1830. Its name seems to derive from the smoky scent that characterizes the wine that is made from it. In the past, the Fumin vine was mainly used to give color and acidity to less structured wines, while more recently it has also been vinified in purity obtaining excellent results. Fumin is therefore the base grape of the red wine Valle d'Aosta Fumin DOC and contributes to the production of other types of wine within the denomination and is the protagonist of many new plantations in the cultivation area that extends from Saint-Vincent to Villeneuve.
