The art of wine in the Pepe family has been passed down for 4 generations. When you think of Abruzzo, it is impossible not to think of the great narrator of the history of wine in this region: Emidio Pepe. Torano Nuovo is the background setting where, from the end of the 19th century, the foundations of this magnificent story began to be laid, which later, with Emidio, in 1964, took shape with the foundation of his company. Today, it is his daughters Daniela and Sofia, with their granddaughters Chiara and Elisa who continue the plot, in which the fil rouge is always dictated by the great founder. The seas and mountains act as a backdrop, giving a climate of perfect balance between the marine flavor and the mountain freshness, which result in an ideal balance of sugar and acidity for the grapes. Fifteen hectares of vineyards consisting of Montepulciano and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo vines, with a small portion of young Pecorino vines, are the symbolic vines of the region, which Emidio has worked for more than 50 years, carrying forward as the key principles of his production method authenticity and respect for the vineyard and the wine. In the vineyard, interventions are kept to a minimum by means of organic and biodynamic practices thanks to preparations of the same, manure, sulfur and copper. In the cellar, the philosophy does not deviate, chemistry is not welcome. The clayey-calcareous soil gives the vines a fruit that does not need additions or adjustments. All processes take place in total respect of tradition, from hand harvesting to foot pressing to bottling without filtration. Fermentation is carried out in cement tanks with natural yeasts without the addition of sulfur dioxide and then refined in the bottle for 5, 10, 20 years.
