Henry Richard
Domaine Henri Richard is a Burgundy winery that stands out for its traditional and elegant style, respectful of nature. We are in Côte de Nuits, in the renowned village of Gevrey-Chambertin which gives its name to the AOC of the same name, famous for its solid, structured and incredibly long-lived Pinot Noir. Today at the helm of the estate is the fourth generation, represented by Richard and Sarah Bastien, children of Jean and Margaret. Domaine Henri Richard cultivates 4.5 hectares of vineyards in accordance with the principles of organic agriculture, certified since the early years of the new millennium, and biodynamic agriculture, also certified. In addition to Pinot Noir, the grape variety of choice, Sarah and Richard grow a small quota of Aligoté. Following the harvest, which is strictly manual, the bunches are transferred to the cellar where they are vinified, often partially whole, in oak barrels. The diktat calls for minimal oenological intervention, with macerations on the skins that are never pushed beyond 21 days and are associated with delicate extraction techniques. Ageing takes place in oak barrels, almost always with multiple passages, as the wood must represent a support for the wine, not a contamination. Once the maturation period is over, the masses are finally bottled without undergoing any filtration. Among the top crus, the Gevrey-Chambertin 'Aux Corvées' and 'Les Tuileries' undoubtedly stand out, pure and refined expressions of the extraordinary and ancient terroir from which they descend. Furthermore, the Henri Richard labels are endowed with an uncommon longevity, quantifiable in decades.
