Garganega Verona IGT 2023 Tenuta la Cà

Garganega is the most unexpected wine in the Tenuta La Cà range, and perhaps the bravest. Garganega is the great white grape variety of Verona, the grape of Soave, Gambellara, and Recioto: extremely rare in Bardolino, and even rarer when vinified this way. Pietro and Aldo Giambenini cultivate it on a plot planted in 2006 on sandy-loam morainic soils, highly calcareous and rich in iron: a terroir that gives the grape a sharp minerality and a tension rarely found elsewhere. The choice to harvest at the end of October with overripe grapes is in itself a statement of intent: not a white wine to be drunk young and fresh, but a wine built on concentration and complexity. Fermentation takes place in acacia barriques, a neutral and delicate wood that preserves the fruit without imparting tannins, and the wine remains there for 18 months, slowly breathing until it reaches a balance that few white wines from this area can express. An "Essence," as the Giambenini brothers intend it: a plot, a soil, a grape, a wine.

Vinificazione

Manual harvest at the end of October of overripe grapes. Loading destemmed but not crushed grapes into the press, to extract only the noblest juice without mechanical forcing. Fermentation in acacia barriques with indigenous yeasts until sugar exhaustion. Aging for 18 months in acacia barriques or used French oak barriques, depending on the characteristics of the vintage. Bottling during the waning moon.

Profumo

The nose is rich and complex: ripe yellow fruit (peach, apricot, quince), withered flowers, honey, sweet spices, with a precise ferrous and chalky minerality emerging in the background.

Gusto

On the palate, it is full-bodied, sapid and long: an important structure, lively acidity that balances the ripeness of the fruit, a persistent and almondy finish typical of Garganega. A meditation white that surprises for the territory it comes from.

Abbinamento

Saffron risotto, pasta with porcini mushrooms, lake fish stew, Vicenza-style cod, aged hard cheeses, foie gras.
