Fiore Dei Calanchi - Sangiovese Romagna DOC 2022 Marta Valpiani
Fiore dei Calanchi was born from a challenge, from an instinctive and courageous choice. Shortly before the 2021 harvest, Marta Valpiani decided to experiment with a technique she had seen in Burgundy, initially perceived as extreme, almost crazy. Then came the intuition: "I like it, let's try it." The wine comes from a tiny parcel of just 2,000 square meters. The name recalls the Anemone, a flower chosen as the symbol of this project. In the language of flowers, it represents hope and expectation, and is known as the wind flower. A perfect image for a wine that thrives on delicacy, precision, and patience.
Winemaking is the heart of the project. The Sangiovese is processed using the baie-par-baie technique, berry by berry. All green parts of the stem are manually removed with scissors, leaving the pedicel attached to the berry to prevent juice leakage. The vat contains destemmed grapes, whole berries processed individually, and a few whole bunches. A meticulous, almost meditative, process.
The result is a bright and refined Sangiovese, which does not seek power but expression. A wine that speaks of wind, anticipation, and precision.
