Cuvee Vincent 2020 Rencel

Vincent is the wine in which Joško Renčel puts everything together—and not figuratively. Malvasia Istriana, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, and Vitovska Garganje in a single blend, four grape varieties with completely different characteristics that, on the Karst, after 14 days of maceration and two years in wood, cease to be individually recognizable and become something new. It is a cuvée that, for Renčel, makes sense precisely because of its provocative nature: the Karst as a common denominator, wood as a mediator, time as an arbiter. The harvest extends until October—each grape variety picked at the right moment—then everything together for maceration, spontaneous fermentation, malolactic fermentation on the lees, 24 months in large barrels and used barriques. Unfiltered. The result is "controversial" by the producer's own admission: earthy, balsamic, warm, with an oily texture and an acidity that holds everything together.
