The Cesanese grape variety has uncertain origins. The only certain data seems to be related to the origin of its name, which surely derives from Cesano, a town near Rome. There are two distinct grape varieties called Cesanese, both widely cultivated in Lazio and in the Castelli Romani area in particular, the Cesanese comune and the Cesanese d'Affile.
