Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2024 Il Paradiso di Manfredi
Il Paradiso di Manfredi's Rosso di Montalcino is not a second-tier wine; it's a Brunello that almost made it. Every year, Florio Guerrini—Manfredi Martini's son-in-law, a founding member of the Brunello Consortium in 1967—downgrades a barrel intended for Brunello to Rosso di Montalcino. Same vineyard, same fermentation, same maceration, same wood: only the time spent in the barrel changes. Fourteen months instead of thirty-six, and the wine is released earlier, fruitier, more direct, less austere—but with the same substance and depth as a young Brunello.
The winery is one of Montalcino's smallest and most traditional: 3.5 hectares in total, seven terraces at 350 meters on the northeast side of the hill, Pliocene conglomerate soil rich in fossil minerals. Spontaneous fermentation in vitrified cement vats, 25-day maceration, then Slavonian oak barrels. No technical adjustments, no filtration, natural clarification. Paradiso di Manfredi's wines are not made—they are awaited. Approximately 2,500 bottles per vintage.
