Rosato di Vera is the wine that Natalino Crognaletti dedicates to his mother Vera Biondini, who still works with him at the winery today and manages the vineyards alongside her son. It is the exact counterpart to ...di Gino: just as that one bears his father's name, this one bears his mother's.
The grapes come from a vineyard in Ostra, facing north at 250 meters above sea level. Three grape varieties in the blend: Sangiovese, Montepulciano, and Lacrima, harvested in mid-September. Soft pressing and short maceration to extract the pale color Natalino seeks, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and then a long rest that few rosés experience: twelve months on the fine lees in concrete tanks.
The result is a rosé that is unlike almost any other Italian rosé: it has the freshness you expect from the color but also a density, a savoriness, and a complexity that make it a true table wine, not a beach aperitif. It pairs well with shellfish, savory pies, and structured fish dishes. One of those rosés that changes the minds of those who think rosé is a compromise.
