Pinot Nero Venezia Giulia IGT 2021 Bressan

Bressan's Pinot Noir is the direct legacy of Fulvio Bressan's studies in Bordeaux and his experiences in Burgundy, from which he returned with six different old clones of this grape variety planted in the gravels of Farra d'Isonzo. The soils, consisting of a one-meter layer of pebbles from the ancient Isonzo riverbed over ferruginous clays, have surprisingly similar pedological characteristics to those of Burgundy, with the advantage of the Isonzo winds drying the compact Pinot Noir bunches and preventing diseases. The grapes are hand-picked from vines over forty years old, ferment spontaneously on the skins for about a month, and the wine then ages for several years in large two-thousand-liter oak barrels, never barriques. The result is a Pinot Noir with a northern structure and Burgundian elegance, with the olfactory profile of great French Pinots: undergrowth, goudron, truffle, black pepper, and vegetal notes that make it recognizable even blind. A Friulian Pinot Noir that only asks for patience.

Vinificazione

100% Pinot Noir from six old French clones brought by Fulvio Bressan from his studies in Bordeaux and experiences in Burgundy. Vines over 40 years old grown on gravel from the ancient Isonzo riverbed with ferruginous clays. Hand-harvested. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and long maceration on the skins for about 30 days. Aged for several years in 2000-liter large oak barrels, never barriques. Bottled without filtration.

Profumo

Complex and aristocratic nose of undergrowth, wet foliage, blackberry, truffle, goudron, burnt wood, a note of black pepper, and vegetal hints of tomato. Burgundian profile with a Friulian accent.

Gusto

A sumptuous and kaleidoscopic palate, with silky and polished tannins, a full but never heavy structure, vibrant acidity, and a ferrous minerality. Long and elegant persistence.

Abbinamento

Duck à l'orange, civet of rabbit, feathered game, braised beef, porcini mushroom risottos, truffle, medium-aged blue cheeses.
