Mephisto 2022 Domaine De L'Ecu
Domaine de l'Ecu's Mephisto 2022 is a Cabernet Franc born from one of Fred Niger's most courageous choices: to take a grape variety historically associated with Touraine and Anjou and cultivate it on a granitic subsoil, in the heart of Melon de Bourgogne country, in Le Landreau, a few kilometers from Nantes. A small parcel of only 0.8 hectares, facing southeast, where the granite gives the Cabernet Franc an unusual mineral tension, a sharper and more vertical profile compared to the clayey expressions of the classic Loire appellations.
Like all the wines from the domaine, it is a micro-vinification production, a few thousand bottles each year, resulting from meticulous vineyard work: manual soil cultivation, hand defoliation, and harvesting into crates. The result is an elegant, juicy, and deep red, with a well-built structure and tannins that seek precision rather than weight. A wine that doesn't need an appellation to be recognized.

On the palate, it is smooth, with an integrated tannic texture. A juicy and rich wine. The finish reveals all its freshness with a delicately spicy closure. |

Excellent with medium-structured meats, egg pasta with ragù, feathered game, semi-aged cheeses. It performs best at the dinner table, but also holds up very well on its own thanks to its delightful drinkability. |
