Jakot 2020 Klinec
In Medana, in the Slovenian Collio, Friulano is not called Friulano: it is called Jakot, and it has always been called that, long before the diplomatic issue with Hungary led to the abolition of the name Tocai in Italy. It is the indigenous grape variety par excellence of these ponca hills, the one that the farmers of Brda have always cultivated and that Aleks Klinec cultivates today with the same care as his ancestors - biodynamic, manual processing, 6 hectares divided into nine plots on the terraced slopes of Medana. Maceration on the skins lasts about four days: enough to extract amber color, fine tannins and the complexity that distinguishes Klinec's Jakot from any conventional Friulano. Then at least 36 months in acacia barrels, the wood of the Brda peasant tradition, aromatically neutral but porous enough to build depth without stifling the grape variety. No filtration, no fining: the wine that arrives in the bottle carries with it the mineral and almond character of Friulano, amplified by the fossiliferous ponca and the three years in wood.
