Granite Vin de France Blanc 2024 Domaine de l'Ecu
Domaine de l'Ecu's Granite is one of the wines that best illustrates why Fred Niger, and before him Guy Bossard, dedicated decades to proving that Muscadet is not a simple wine. This cuvée comes from vines rooted in a two-mica granite subsoil, one of the three geological formations around which the entire identity of the domaine is built. It is precisely from that rock that the character of this wine comes: a crystalline minerality, a thread of tension that runs through the sip from the first to the last note, and a freshness that is never trivial but always precise, like the signature of a terroir that is immediately recognizable.
Melon de Bourgogne is the symbolic grape variety of Muscadet: neutral in ordinary hands, extraordinarily expressive in the hands of those who know how to listen to the earth. In this case, the granite shapes a vertical and saline profile, far from the simple citrusy character that made Muscadet famous as an oyster wine and forgotten as a cellar wine. The Granite has the structure and purity to evolve in the bottle for years.
