Friulano 2023 Ferlat
Ferlat's Friulano is the most direct and territorial expression of this small winery in Cormons, founded in 1950 by Silvano Ferlat and now run by Moreno Ferlat and Federica Tabacchi on 7.5 organic certified hectares. The Friulano—formerly Tocai, the emblematic grape of eastern Friuli—grows here on the flat, gravelly soil of the Isonzo, where the soil's permeability and proximity to the Collio create a white wine of precise freshness and savory minerality, without the imposing structure it would have on clay soils. Short maceration on the skins, spontaneous fermentation in concrete tanks with only indigenous yeasts, aging on the fine lees: an essential protocol, designed to interpose nothing between the grape and the glass. Massal selections, spontaneous grassing, no chemical intervention: the wine that reaches the bottle is what Friulano can yield on this soil, in this vintage.
