Bourgogne Rouge 2024 Domaine de la Cadette
The Bourgogne Rouge by La Soeur Cadette is the Pinot Noir that Valentin Montanet produces from grapes purchased between Volnay and Vézelay, from vines about forty-five years old on stony red clay. Valentin, who completed his training by working with Jean Foillard and Château Cambon in Beaujolais before returning to Vézelay, brings with him that love for crunchy fruit and immediate drinkability that is the hallmark of the best Beaujolais, applied to the Pinot Noir of northern Burgundy: whole cluster maceration with manual pigeage, spontaneous fermentation, aging in barrels and vats. The result is a Pinot Noir that never exceeds thirteen degrees and favors freshness and drinking pleasure, with cherries, black tea, and earth in the foreground. The Montanet family, who had Bernard Raveneau as a mentor and Marcel Lapierre as an inspiration, makes red Burgundy with the soul of Beaujolais. A red to drink chilled, without overthinking it.
