Avresir - Red Wine 2021 Villa Calicantus

Avresir is the Reserve of Villa Calicantus and the most radical statement of intent by Daniele and Chiara Delaini: to demonstrate that Bardolino can age, that it can be a wine to wait for and to cherish. The name is an anagram of "Riserva" in the Veronese dialect, a play on words that encapsulates the entire philosophy of this small biodynamic winery in Calmasino. The grapes come from the highest hectare of the winery's vineyard, on a windy hill where the poor morainic soil, rich in stones and limestone, pushes the roots deep and concentrates the character of the grape bunch. From here, the view opens west to Lake Garda and north to Monte Baldo: a severe and luminous microclimate, far from the commercial Bardolino that has dominated in recent decades. The aging process in the cellar is the longest of the entire range: two years in wooden barrels and then another year in the bottle before release. The only Bardolino aged two years in wood.
