The Weingut Immich-Batterieberg company, located in the village of Enkirch in the Mittelmosel, boasts very ancient origins, in fact the first document attesting to its existence dates back to 908 AD. In 1945 the Immich family purchased the plot and began producing its wines. Since 2009, the regisseur Gernot Kollmann has redeemed the production with a change of direction towards natural viticulture. Today in particular the Enkircher Batterieberg cru has become famous, as here one finds over a hundred-year-old ungrafted vines on sloping schist soils.
The four vineyards that Immich works on decidedly steep terrains, are mainly composed of slate rich in quartzite and iron. The wines that come out of them are very drinkable and mineral, products of a terroir that is unique in every sense. The cellar, built from rocks and quartzite, stands on the steep terrains and inside the wines are worked with spontaneous fermentations, indigenous yeasts and left to rest in old barriques depending on the vintage.
From this magnificent winery we remember the “Riesling Kabinett CAI”, the “Riesling Trocken Enkircher Batterieberg” and the “Riesling Ellergrub”, all wines that carry with them a lot of history and passion.
