Francesca, Andrea and Chiara: these are the names of the three forty-year-olds who, in 2008, decided to create the Tunia winery in the Tuscan Val di Chiana. We are in the province of Arezzo, among woods, hills, vineyards and olive groves, not far from the Dorna Castle, a complex of Lombard origin where wine production has been attested by historical documents since very ancient times. The three souls of Tunia divide the tasks: Francesca, a biologist and oenologist, follows the production part, Chiara, a graduate in economics, takes care of the commercial part, while Andrea follows the financial aspects, linked to development strategies. The watchword that characterizes the production of the Tunia winery is "organic". In fact, the aim is to arrive at labels that are faithful expressions of the grapes used, the terroir of origin and the years spent in the vineyard. A winery with a very precise creed, whose name, “Tunia”, in the Etruscan pantheon indicated the divinity that presided over the ripening of the fruit: what better omen then for a range of genuine and high-quality labels? The vineyards of the Tunia winery extend over an area of about 15 hectares, within the Val di Chiana, a terroir historically devoted to quality viticulture. Among the rows we find both native and international varieties: in particular the oldest vineyards, which represent 10 of the total 15 hectares and are almost 50 years old, are cultivated with Sangiovese, Colorino, Canaiolo and Trebbiano, while in 2005 some parcels were planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. Even more recently, more precisely in 2010, the old Trebbiano plants were grafted with Vermentino. The vines are grown with two different training systems, spurred cordon and guyot. In the vineyard and in the cellar, the work is carried out in the most natural way possible, following organic farming principles. No substances are used, apart from a minimal dose of sulphites, only when deemed necessary. Every year, the Tunia winery produces five labels, the result of Francesca, Andrea and Chiara's desire to get involved. Bottles created in perfect harmony with nature and the surrounding environment, which deserve more than one taste across the entire range presented. If you really don't know where to start, then start with Chiarofiore, a white blend where Trebbiano and Vermentino will win you over from the first sips!
