The name, Monte Bernardi, dates back to 1085. A third of the vineyards are over 40 years old, another third is 13 years old, and the final third includes vineyards replanted in the last 10 years. The first wine was produced in 1992. Previously, the grapes and/or bulk wine were sold to other farms in the area. The Schmezler family purchased the company in 2003 and has since invested resources, time, and love in the vineyards, the winery, and the villa.
Monte Bernardi extends over 53 hectares of which 10 hectares are vineyards with five hectares with an age over 40 years. The vineyards are located in a hilly area south of Panzano, known as a great cru of Chianti Classico. The vineyards are planted in stony soils, mostly composed of Galestro, Arenaria and Alberese. They are ideally located, with an altitude of 350 meters above sea level, surrounded by woods, facing south, where La Pesa the main river of the area flows nearby. All these factors contribute to a unique microclimate of Monte Bernardi.
