Domaine de la Cras is located in the hills overlooking the capital of Burgundy. In 2013, the city of Dijon chose the young vigneron, Marc Soyard, to farm the land, cultivate the property, and plant more vines. In exchange for the land, the cave, and the ability to bottle his own wine, Marc must pay a “tax” in the form of bottles of wine each vintage to the city of Dijon. In the highest part of his Domaine, the domaine’s steepest and best exposed Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines are used for the “Cras” cuvée. Before becoming the official winemaker of Dijon, Marc Soyard spent six years at the prestigious Domaine Bizot in Vosne Romanée working as a winemaker. While at Bizot and not in the vineyards, Marc was under the tutelage of Jean-Yves Bizot learning his winemaking process. The domaine's official designation is Bourgogne AOC, but Domaine de la Cras is the only Burgundy domaine authorized to use the Coteaux de Dijon appellation, as well as being able to label their Cras blanc and rouge cuvées "Monopole".
