Alexander Bain is an imaginative artisan vigneron who embodies revolution and avant-garde, decidedly in contrast with the territory that hosts him, namely the Loire Valley area of Pouilly Fume, near the famous village of Sancerre, which has exuded tradition and winemaking dogmas for decades. Thanks to the help of his faithful steed Phenomenon, Alexandre raises his vines with rigor and artisanal philosophy, through the principles of biodynamic agriculture. He acquired his passion for vineyards and agriculture directly from his grandfather, who ran a farm when he was a child and at 18 he decided to pack his bags and go to the winemaking school in Beaune, in the heart of the highly renowned Burgundy, to learn the art of winemaking. Alexandre Bain honed his craft around the wine-growing region of France and returned, in 2007, to Tracy-sur-Loire where he bought his first vineyard: he began to work the soil only thanks to his horse Phenomenon, a technique already known especially in Burgundy and implemented primarily to avoid compacting the soil through the weight of agricultural machinery. Working in the vineyard on horseback does not increase the density of the soil, leaving the roots of the vines naturally oxygenated. Also thanks to the meeting with his vineyard neighbor, none other than the established and eccentric artisan of macerated Sancerre Sebastien Riffault, Alexandre based his agriculture on minimal intervention in the cellar, to bring out the most authentic nature of his fortunate territory from the glasses. At Domaine Alexandre Bain all the soils are not altered by synthetic chemicals, just as its labels do not include added sulphites so as not to mask the most authentic terroir of this corner of the Loire, where the main grape variety is embodied by Sauvignon Blanc, which has always been the noblest white grape variety that populates the vineyards of this geographical area. Here Alexandre now manages 11 hectares of vineyards and distinguishes himself from other producers above all through a late harvest, when his grapes reach a more substantial ripeness and are able to release richer and more enveloping sensations in the finished products, characterized by greater density and intense tropical aromas.
