Sancerre Blanc Skeveldra 2018 Sébastien Riffault
Sébastien Riffault's Sancerre Blanc Skeveldra is the cuvée born from Sancerre's most classic terroir: the terres blanches, clay-limestone soils with their belemnite fossils that built the reputation of this appellation worldwide. But Riffault does not make classic Sancerre, and even on this familiar soil, his approach remains radical. The name means "stone splinter" in Lithuanian: lively, sharp, cutting, exactly like the profile of this wine.
Skeveldra is a vertical and mineral wine, with the limestone imparting precise tension and a long-lasting saline finish. Approximately 50% of the grapes are botrytized, but the limestone balances the opulence with a freshness that keeps the wine straight and focused.
