Le Oche - Marche Bianco IGT 2024 Fattoria San Lorenzo

Le Oche (The Geese) is named after the geese that actually graze among the rows of the eponymous vineyard in Montecarotto: not a marketing name, but a fact. Natalino Crognaletti lets them freely keep the under-row clean, fertilize the soil, and walk on it, just as animals have done in peasant vineyards for centuries before chemicals made them disappear. It is one of the details that best explains what Fattoria San Lorenzo is, the third generation of winemakers that Natalino has led since 1995, immediately bringing it to organic and biodynamic certification.

Verdicchio in purity from the Le Oche vineyard, exposed to the southwest at about 380 meters above sea level, on sandy-clay soils. Soft pressing at 0.2 atmospheres, spontaneous fermentation for about twenty days with only indigenous yeasts, twelve months of aging on fine lees in concrete tanks, and another six months of rest in the bottle before release. A white wine of character, generous, saline, with that mineral tension that the Le Oche vineyard gives to all the wines that come from it. To drink now or to forget in the cellar for a few years to see it change its skin.

Vinificazione

Verdicchio from the Le Oche vineyard in Montecarotto, south-west facing at 380 meters above sea level on sandy-clay soils. Gentle pressing at 0.2 atmospheres, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts for about twenty days. Twelve months on fine lees in concrete tanks and six months in bottle. No filtration.

Profumo

Identifiable and complex on the nose: almond, ripe pear, elderflower and acacia. Generous overall, with a mineral undertone that opens up in the glass.

Gusto

A sunny and generous sip, with a soft touch and a nice savory push that runs through the finish. Good body, lively freshness, long almondy return. Verdicchio with flesh and tension combined.

Abbinamento

Seafood risotto, fried Adriatic fish, Marche-style fish stew, baked fish with herbs, medium-aged cheeses.
