Astra 2018 Domaine De L'Ecu
Domaine de l'Ecu's Astra 2018 is a red wine that immediately reflects the philosophy of Fred Niger, a winemaker who inherited the legacy of pioneer Guy Bossard. Niger has led the Le Landreau estate, southeast of Nantes, towards new experimentation without ever betraying the principles of Demeter biodynamics that have guided the estate since 1998. This wine goes beyond appellation norms, voluntarily declassified to a Vin de France. Gamay may not belong to the Muscadet canon, but it deeply aligns with the vision of those who want to produce vibrant, unadulterated, and uncompromising wines.
It is a fresh, lively, and highly drinkable red, built on crunchy fruit and a silky texture that makes it surprisingly smooth. It offers small red fruits, cherry, and plum, with floral hints and a delicate spice in the background. The softness on the palate is natural, not forced: it is the result of respectful winemaking and aging that preserves the vitality of the grape. A wine to be enjoyed with pleasure, produced in very limited quantities each vintage.
